Grandparents’ Day

We are looking forward to welcoming as many grandparents as possible to our Grandparents’ Day on Wednesday 30th January.  There will be a prayer service in the school hall at 11.15am.  Then grandparents can visit their grandchildren in their classrooms.  Tea and coffee will follow.  We would love any grandparent who plays music, sings or has another talent to share them with the children on the day.

Geashill Village features on RTE 1 Programme Eco Eye

The village and school featured on the RTE 1 programme Eco Eye on Monday evening. The programme was about the plight of the bumblebee and what we can do to help it. A crew visited the village and school in the summer to record a segment for the progamme.  Well done to Pat and Karen from the Geashill Tidy Towns’ Committee who spoke so well about all the work going on in the village to promote pollination.  Well done to the children who featured also.

Take a look at the programme at the link below.  The part on Geashill can be seen in the second half of the programme.

Christmas Play

There was great excitement and a wonderful festive feeling on Tuesday 18th December when we held our Christmas Play in St. Mary’s Church, Raheen. In front of a huge crowd the children from all classes put on a spectacular show of music, song and dance. The weeks of practice and rehearsal certainly paid off as everyone really enjoyed a variety of performances which included Gospel Angels, Disco Stars and Curious Sheep as well as the traditional nativity characters. The show concluded with all the pupils singing together and wishing everyone a Happy Christmas.

Medal Presentation by Chasing Abbey’s Johnny Bee

Past pupil and Chasing Abbey star Jonathan “Bee” Byrne visited Geashill School on Wednesday 19th December to present medals to the girls’ football team. The girls won their Cumann na mBunscol final in October.
Principal Mícheál Hyland welcomed Jonathan back to the school and congratulated him on his success with Chasing Abbey. He recalled Jonathan won a Cumann na mBunscol competition back in 2007 when he was in 6th Class. Jonathan was delighted to present the girls with their winning medals.
After posing for many photographs Jonathan, with the help of the team, sang a chorus of the hit song Talk to Me. He then took part in a lunchtime game of soccer much to the excitement of all pupils before signing lots of autographs. A day to remember for the whole school.
