Highlights from Cairdeas 1: 2019- 2020

It is our plan that school will re-open for the new school year on Tuesday 1st of September but as I’m sure you’re aware there is some uncertainty in relation to all of this at the moment. Hopefully things will become clearer in the weeks ahead.

Classes for the new school year will be as follows:

Junior Infants: Ms. Galvin

Senior Infants & 1st Class: To be recruited in the summer.

2nd & 3rd Classes: Mrs. Shaughnessy  (please note Mrs. Shaughnessy will be on maternity leave in September. A teacher will be recruited in the summer)

4th & 5th Classes: Mrs. Hyland

6th Class: Mr. Hyland

Cairdeas 1: Ms. Leonard

Cairdeas 2: Mrs. Kearns

Special Education Teachers: Ms. McGrath, Mrs. Bell & Ms. F Walsh

As it’s not possible for our new Junior Infants and their parents to visit the school at the moment, Ms Galvin has made a video to show them around our school.

Dear Parents,

I hope you are all keeping well.

It is hard to believe that June has arrived, the traditional month of school tours, sport’s days, our Open Day and lots of other fun end-of- year activities.

Since schools were closed in March the children have been interacting wonderfully well with all the teachers and some brilliant work has been completed and sent back.  You can see examples of some of this work in the respective class pages of the website. Well done to you all for the enthusiasm shown in what has been challenging times.

It has also been great to see the children and speak to them over the last few weeks through our Google Meet classes.

Now, with four weeks of school left, teachers will continue to post learning activities and, as before, just do what you can and don’t feel under pressure to complete all the work each day.

In the coming weeks we will be sending out end-of-year reports, booklists and a calendar for the new school year.  Hopefully within the next fortnight we will have a better idea of what school will be like in September as the Dept. of Education are due to issue guidance on the re-opening of schools.

We will also arrange a day towards the end of June for rental books to be returned and for any children’s belongings to be collected.

It was wonderful to talk to my children during the week on Zoom. They are all working so hard and had lots of news to tell me!

5th & 6th Classes were asked to go outside and take some photographs of the signs of summer that are all around us at the moment.  Take a look at these lovely photos that were sent in this week.

A special mention to our wonderful 2nd Class who should have made their First Holy Communion this weekend. All of these boys and girls put in tremendous work to prepare for this special occasion and were all looking forward to celebrating with family and friends. Thank you for sharing the lovely photos of how you and your families spent the day.

This weekend 2nd Class should have been having a very special family celebration for their First Holy Communion.

As we’re all aware this won’t be happening as planned and I’m sure all the boys and girls as well as their families are disappointed that the big day has had to be postponed.

Hopefully we’ll be able to make up for this disappointment later on this year when regulations will allow the ceremony to go ahead.

This morning Msgr. Coonan celebrated a special Mass from his home for all the boys and girls in 2nd Class.  I know he has missed visiting the school over the past couple of months and meeting up with all the wonderful 2nd Class.

Bishop Denis Nulty recorded a message for all the boys and girls of our diocese who had been preparing for First Communion this year.  You can see it here.

As the weather looks good for the next few days, hopefully all the children will still get to enjoy the weekend.
