Confirmation

Congratulations to the 6th Class pupils who were confirmed in St. Joseph’s Church , Ballinagar on Friday 23rd March.  Thanks to everyone who helped make the day so special, including Bishop Denis Nulty, Msgr. Coonan and Fr. Stapleton.  Well done to the children from 3rd, 4th and 5th Classes who joined their counterparts from Ballinagar N.S. in the choir.

French Visitors

We had a very exciting morning on Friday when nine visitors from Jaux , including the mayor and vice-mayor, came to the school.  They were joined by BBG Town Twinning committee members.  All classes performed a variety of poems, songs, music and dance much to the delight of our guests. Well done to everyone involved.

Take a look at some Irish Dancing below.

FAI 5-a-side Soccer

We had great success at the 5-a-side soccer competition which took place in Leah Victoria Park in Tullamore today.

The boys’ team topped their group following a draw and three wins while the girls’ team finished second with three wins and one loss.  Both teams have now qualified for the Offaly finals which will take place on April 12th, at the same venue.  Well done to all!

5th & 6th Class News

We have been very busy over the past couple of weeks.

Mrs. Kearns has begun teaching us Sign Language again.

In Maths we have been working on Time.  We have made Loop Games based on the 24 hour clock.

In English we have continued reading our novel The Guns of Easter.

We have acted out some of the scenes.

We also read about The 6 Nations Rugby Championship and carried out some work in pairs.  We wrote a conversation we’d like to have with Johnny Sexton.

In Art we looked at a painting called “Coming from the Mill”, by English artist L.S. Lowry.  We learned that he painted scenes depicting industrial cities in northern England.  We have been studying the Industrial Revolution in History and the painting gave us a better idea of what these cities looked like.  We are going to draw our versions of this painting in the coming days.

Finally, two of the boys in 6th Class helped Ms. Mooney put together a wooden house for her Cairdeas class.  They are available for any odd jobs that need to be done!
