Monday 11th – Friday 15th May.
Well done for all the work again last week.
A message for 6th Class. I hope to arrange a video call with you on Wednesday just to say hello and see how you’re all getting on. I’ll send an invitation to your email address today or tomorrow. Keep an eye out for it.
I have spoken to most of the 6th Class parents last week and I’ll try to speak to those I couldn’t contact today. Once I’ve done that we’ll give the video call a go.
If things go well for 6th Class I’ll arrange something similar for 5th next week.
As for work this week, I’d love you to get your project finished. If you need to spend more time doing it you can spend less time doing the other work.
My advice about the project from last week is here for you again.
Project Advice:
- Thanks for sending back your project topics. Now a few pieces of advice.
- Read and find out lots of information from more than one place.
- Keep a record of all the places you find the information. It’s good to write this at the end of your project.
- Try your best to understand what you have found out.
- You can’t include every bit of information in your project so it’s important to decide on maybe 4 or 5 sections.
- For example if I chose to do a project on Mayo Football I would break it up into the following sections: Why I Chose to do this Project, Men’s All Ireland Victories (1936, 1950 &1951), Women’s All Ireland Victories (1999,2000,2002 & 2003), My Favourite Mayo Players (Seán Flanagan, Willie Joe Padden, Cora Staunton and Lee Keegan), My Favourite Mayo Match (Dublin v Mayo 2006 All-Ireland Semi-Final) and Mayo’s Most Heartbreaking Loss (there’s been a lot! but I’d pick 2014 Semi-Final Replay loss to Kerry)
- Then, and this is really important, try to write in your own words. Don’t just copy down word for word the information you have found.
- Always include some illustrations, ones you have drawn yourselves or ones found online.
- If you are presenting it in a Powerpoint of using Google Slides it is important not to have too much writing on each slide and to always include some image on every slide.
- If you are making a booklet or presenting it on paper, breaking up the writing with suitable illustrations makes each page much more attractive.
Get in touch if you have any questions.
Remember you can be in contact with me by emailing geashillns1@gmail.com.
Ms. Mc Grath’s pupils can contact her on trishmcgrath2016@gmail.com. I know she’d love to see some of your work.
Pupils of Mrs. Bell can get in touch on mrsdbell20@gmail.com. She’d also love to see some of your work.
Ms. Walsh’s pupils can get in contact on fwalshsen@hotmail.com. I know she would also love to see how you’ve been getting on.

- Bun go Barr lth 111 J 1 – 5.
Maths:
- Give these 2 D shapes a go.
- If you have time draw the shapes as well.
Geography:
- Map Skills Book pg 52,53 & 54.
Art:

- If you prefer take a look at these and try to make your own version.

Some more wonderful projects arrived today. I will upload them in the next few days if my wifi allows!
Enjoy the lovely weather this weekend but remember to keep the rules of physical distancing and good hygiene.
Gallery of Thursday’s Work:
I really enjoyed our 6th Class meeting this morning. It was almost like old times!
I’m going to do the same for 5th Class on Monday at 11am. I’ll send an invitation to the email address you are using to return your work before Sunday. I will be using Google Meet so hopefully most people will be able to access it. I will send a text to your parents about it as well.
Work for Thursday 14th of May:
Spellings:
- Activities G and H pg 61.
English:
- Read Chapter 10 Guns of Easter.
- Write a list of the terrible things Jimmy saw as he moved through the city.
- Take a look at the activities on yesterday’s poem from RTE School Hub.
- If you like you could use the idea of the comic strip to illustrate some of the images Jimmy witnessed that you have listed.
Gaeilge:
- Continue spending 15 to 20 minutes working through the activities on Duolingo.
- Bun go Barr lth 110 H 1-10.
Maths:
- Do a selection of these angle questions.
- Some hints: a to d are all straight line angles which are 180 degrees. So if you know one angle is 50 degrees the other has to be 180 – 50 = 130 degrees.
- e to h are all full turns or circles which always have a total of 360 degrees. If you know one angle is 40 degrees the other will be 360 – 40 = 320 degrees.
- i to l are triangles, see yesterday’s hint. q and r are triangles as well.
- Be careful with m and n. They have four sides as do o, p, s and t. They are quadrilaterals so see yesterday’s hint also!
- Do a selection of these. You don’t have to do them all. Don’t spend any longer than 30mins at them.
Art:
- The RTE School Hub has an Art lesson for 5th & 6th Classes today. It’s going to be about creating your own stamps.
- Take a look and I’d love to see some of your finished products!
PE:
- Yoga for Kids might be enjoyable.
- You could try some of these GAA Activities either.
- Give Kids Bop a go if you’d prefer.
- Or you could do the Joe Wicks workout.
Remember to spend some time on your project today if you can.

Work for Wednesday 13th of May:
Our meeting for 6th Class will be on today at 11am. Hopefully you’ve all seen the invitation on the email I sent. If you can’t find it check the spam folder. Any problems send an email to geashillns1@gmail.com.
Spellings:
- Do activities e & f on pg 61.
Gaeilge:
- Continue with Duolingo for 15 to 20 mins. You can do longer if you wish!
- Bun go Barr lth 108 C 1-6
English:
- Watch the RTE School Hub lesson on the poem, She Moved Through the Fair by Padraic Colum.
- The lesson will look at the use of imagery in the poem.
- Do any suggested activities.
- This poem was made into a song also. You can listen to it here.
- Another version with the words shown is here.
Science:
- Take a look at the activities based on the clinometer from yesterday’s RTE School Hub.
- The instructions to make a clinometer and how to use it are there and in my opinion it’s easier to follow than on the tv yesterday.
- I would love if some of you gave this a go.
Maths:
- Take a look at numbers 1 and 2 above.
- Remember that the 3 angles in a triangle always add up to 180 degrees.
- I’m not going to tell you how to get the missing angles in number 2. We did loads of these in school. I think you should be able to work out how to do them.
- You do not use a protractor to work these out.
- In number 5 above these shapes are all 4 sided or quadrilaterals.
- Remember the 4 angles in all quadrilaterals always add up to 360 degrees.
- Knowing this information you should be able to work out the missing angle.
- You do not use a protractor to work these out.
Projects:
I’ve been sent some wonderful projects already. I won’t publish any of them until I get some more. Well done for the great effort so far and I’m looking forward to seeing more in the days to come.
Remember to those still working on the project spend some time today doing some more.
Gallery of Tuesday’s Work:
Work for Tuesday 12th May:
Spellings:
- Do activities C & D on pg 60.
Gaeilge:
- Continue to spend 15 or 20 mins working on Duolingo …. or ….
- Bun go Barr read lth 107 and answer questions B, 6 -10.
Maths:
- Remember you can get the approximate area of a circle by finding the area of the square around it and then getting 3/4 of your answer.
- So if the circle has a diameter of 5cm, the square drawn around the circle will be 5cm in length and width.
- To find the area of the square you multiply 5cm by 5cm and get 25cm squared.
- The approximate area of the circle will be 3/4 of 25. So 25 divided by 4 is 6.25. Then you have to multiply that by 3 to get 19.75cm squared which is the approximate area of the circle.
- Try your best to use the same method to work out the approx areas of circles A and B.
English:
- Just Grammar pg 38.
SPHE:
- RTE School Hub had a lesson on diabetes yesterday. Do the activities based on the lesson. There’s a short quiz and a guessing game.
Science:
- Today’s lesson on the RTE School Hub is supposed to be about clinometers. These are instruments that are used to help measure angles and heights of larger buildings.
- Take a look and see what activities are suggested.
PE:
- Joe Wicks’ workout is a good way to be active.
- Kidz Bop is fun too.
- T.J. Reid’s workout is good too.
- If you prefer just spend 60 mins being active outside today.
Remember to spend time on your project again today.

Gaeilge:
- Continue spending 15 or 20 mins on Duolingo if you’re finding it enjoyable … or…
- Bun go Barr: Read lth 106 and answer questions B 1-5 lth 108. This is a new story and there might be some words/phrases that you don’t fully understand. Just try your best.
- If anyone wants to do both Duolingo and Bun go Barr you can!
English:
- Read Guns of Easter Chapter 9.
- Write a short summary telling the main events that occur in the chapter.
- If you have time draw a suitable illustration .
Maths:

- Remember the diameter is always double the radius.
Science:

- Just watch and enjoy. No written work needed.
RTE School Hub:
- Today there’s due to be a lesson on diabetes. We know quite a bit about this but you might find it interesting.
Remember to spend time on your project today.

- Also, 1/2 of 1/4 is the same as 1/2 x 1/4.
- If you have time take a look at the Maths activities based on yesterday’s RTE School Hub on Time, Speed and Distance.

- Work out 1 to 6 and 13 to 18.
- Number 1: 7/4 = 1 3/4 because 1 full unit has 4 quarters plus the 3/4 left over = 7/4 altogether.

Monday 27th of April – Friday 1st of May.
Hello to you all. Well done to everyone for all the great work from last week.
I hope you’re all ready for Active Home Week. If we were in school we’d all be very active every day but unfortunately it’s not the case. However, Ms Leonard and the Active School Committee have been very busy organising things for you at home so I hope you all enjoy the week.
We need you to fill out this Active Challenge Chart every day and return it next Monday. You can take a photo of it and send it back by email to geashillns1@gmail.com. If you have any problems printing it out just make your own version instead, fill it up and send it back. We have to get as many back as possible to retain our Active Flag. If you return the form Ms. Leonard will put your name in a raffle for some prizes such as hats and hoodies.
All the activities will be on the Home Page of our website each morning. Make sure to look at it as I know there will be lots of interesting activities and videos. You might even see me in one of them!
Make sure to follow the rules about handwashing, physical distancing and staying within 2km of your home again this week.
Work for Friday 1st of May:
Well done everyone again for your work and activity yesterday. Keep filling in your form over the weekend and return it to Ms Leonard by 6pm on Sunday. Her email address is kategnsdeaf@gmail.com. She will hold a raffle on Monday for all those who return the forms. There will be 1 winner for this. She’s also going to give a prize to the pupil from each room who has taken the most steps so send her photos of the steps you have taken this week.
A few of you have been asking about the projects. Please don’t rush in to writing things. All I want you to be doing at the moment is researching your topic. Read and find out as much as you can about it. I’ll give advice on the next steps next week.
Enjoy the weekend. Back after the weekend on Tuesday 5th of May.
Spellings:
