Thank you all very much for all of your hard work and communication this week. Everyone has made a huge effort to stay in touch and complete some school work. Let’s keep this great effort going.

This week is going to be a little different. It’s “Active Home Week”. If you were in school this week you would be very active every day but unfortunately it’s not the case this year. Ms. Leonard and the Active School Committee members have been very busy making sure Active Home Week is ready to go. It is very important we get to keep our beautiful active flag so let’s try get active this week.
I will reduce the amount of school tasks set every day to allow extra time for physical activities.

I have attached an editable active challenge chart.

CHALLENGE Chart (Schools Working Towards ASF) ‘Fillable’ PDF

Please try your best to return this chart to me via Class Dojo or at geashillns1@gmail.com when it is completed. If you can’t print it or edit it, make your own form and when it is complete, take a photo of it and return it to me at the end of the week.We need as many forms filled as possible to retain our Active Flag. Children who return the form might even win a prize! Ms. Leonard has hoodies and hats etc. up for grabs.

Obviously, all this activity will have to be done keeping the rules about social or physical distancing and handwashing. We’re becoming experts in this now but it’s still important not to forget what we’ve learned over the last few weeks!Remember to stay within 2km of your home and stay safe.

Have a great week!

Friday 1st May 2020     An Aoine 1ú Bealtaine 2020

Hello everyone on the first day of May. I can’t believe we have reached the first day of summer already.

Remember to keep filling in your activities on your Challenge Chart. Keep active over the weekend too and send the filled chart back to Ms. Leonard (kategnsdeaf@gmail.com)  by 6pm on Sunday evening. There will be a raffle including all returned completed forms for one prize.

There is also a prize for one person from our classroom who has recorded the most steps. Keep active and increase those steps!

Don’t worry about the any of the work set for you today. Just try your best!

Maths:

3rd class      Area

Read the instructions before you begin.

Has anyone worked out the quick way to work out the number of squares in each rectangle?

Area= length x width
For example,

length=5cm
width=3cm

5 rows of 3 =15
Area= 5cm x 3m= 15cm²
When we multiply (cm x cm) or the answer is always cm²

1a. area of grass

length=9cm

width=5cm

area of grass= length x width

=  9cm x 5cm or (9 rows of 5 squares)

=  45cm²

Answer questions b,c,e,h,i

Optional- Question 2

Draw a simple picture to help plan your answer.

Area= length x width

Then find out the cost.

1 square= €2

2 squares=€4

4th Class

In your copy, using a ruler draw these shapes and find their areas.

Rectangle: 6cm long and 5cm wide

Square: Each side 7cm

Rectangle: 6½cm long and 8cm wide

Do not use the squares of your copy as cm².

Now estimate the area of these shapes in m².

Find the area of each part of the shape and add the totals together.
