This year, we are taking part in the Amber Flag Initiative, run by Pieta. The Amber Flag Initiative aims to encourage schools to promote, and actively bring about a culture change in positive mental health within the educational system and other organisations. The Amber Flag Initiative acknowledges and enhances the already good work that is being carried out, where mental health is concerned, by offering an award, the Amber Flag. A team of enthusiastic and committed students have been working diligently to develop and organise activities to support and promote positive mental wellbeing in Geashill N.S. .
Click on read the article below to see some of the activities we have been doing to promote wellbeing and positive mental health.
Mindful Mondays:
We take time on Mondays to calm our mind and body through different activities. Some of these activities include yoga, mindfulness art, meditation, and breath work.
Friendship Week:
We held a friendship week from 14th February to 18th February 2022. We focused on the importance of taking care of each other and looking out for one another. We took time to honour the friendships we have and develop new friendships too! We had a special intention for each day of the week.
On Monday we made friendship bunting and displayed one in each of our classes.
On Tuesday, we took time to show kindness to our friends in a variety of ways. We wrote an appreciation note to a friend in our class!
On Wednesday, we worked on our friendship skills.
On Thursday, we gave a compliment to members of our class.
On Friday, we had a friendship rock ceremony where we designed a friendship rock and placed it in our school garden. We celebrate friendship in our school on a daily basis!
We continue to build on the already great work we are doing for positive mental health in Geashill N.S.
Our next main goal we have set ourselves to achieve the Amber Flag is to hold a Mental Health Awareness Day. We are looking forward to it!
